Kathy Wong is a senior associate in the Hong Kong office, specialising in ship finance. With extensive experience in syndicated and bilateral loan structures, sale and leaseback transactions, and international leasing arrangements, Kathy regularly advises leasing companies, banks, and financial institutions on complex financing matters. She has a strong track record in structuring and negotiating ship finance deals, including Chinese leasing transactions and export credit agency-backed financings.  Kathy also provides strategic advice to shipowners and operators on shipbuilding contracts, vessel acquisitions and sale, and vessel registration matters across multiple jurisdictions.  

Kathy is known for her commercial acumen and problem-solving approach tailored to the evolving maritime industry.

Relevant experience

  • A leading PRC leasing company on a complex financial leasing transaction involving two Madeira-flagged container vessels, structured with a German shipping group. 
  • A prominent PRC leasing company on the acquisition and reflagging of eleven vessels from Hong Kong flag to the Marshall Islands flag and structuring operating lease arrangements with a Danish operator.
  • A leading containership owner in multiple financial leasing and sale and purchase transactions covering vessels registered under German, Liberian, Marshall Islands, Singapore, and Hong Kong flags.
  • A leading international bank as mandated lead arranger, agent and security trustee in a syndicated term loan facility (with a hybrid structure and supported by security relating to 15 vessels) to a subsidiary of a leading PRC leasing company. 
  • A leading PRC bank in a factoring transaction involving ten container vessels, involving the purchase of charter receivables under bareboat charter made between a leading PRC leasing company and one of the largest European container operators. 
  • Taiwanese banks on secured term loan facilities for the financing and refinancing of newbuild vessels registered under Liberian and Hong Kong flags.
