The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority in Kenya Releases Guidelines on Green Hydrogen
The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority, the regulator of Kenya’s electric power, renewable energy and petroleum subsectors, recently launched the Kenya Guidelines on Green Hydrogen and its Derivatives (the Guidelines).
The Guidelines were published less than a year after the launch of the Green Hydrogen Strategy and Road Map for Kenya by President of the Republic of Kenya, Hon Dr William Ruto during the Africa Climate Summit hosted in Nairobi in September 2023. The Guidelines, applicable to developers and users of green hydrogen (and/or its derivatives), are intended to stimulate the green hydrogen economy in Kenya.
Developers now have a useful starting point when looking to the regulatory and compliance aspects of potential investment opportunity in the green hydrogen economy in Kenya, a key feature of Kenya’s Energy Sector Road Map 2040.
The Guidelines came into effect on 1 May 2024.
