The New Insolvency Register in Slovakia: A Game Changer for Businesses from October 2025
Key contact
On 1 October 2025, the new Register of Pre-insolvency, Liquidation and Insolvency Proceedings came into force, replacing the previous Insolvency Register in Slovakia. It aims to modernise and streamline insolvency proceedings, bringing greater transparency, efficiency, faster processes, and easier access to data for the business environment.
Key Features
The Insolvency Register serves as a centralised electronic platform, consolidating information on all pre-insolvency, liquidation, and insolvency proceedings. This register will be managed by the Ministry of Justice of the Slovak Republic and will be accessible online, ensuring that all relevant data is available to the public, businesses, creditors, and other stakeholders in real time. To a limited extent, the register is also available in English.
It details the following proceedings:
- bankruptcy proceedings, including “small” bankruptcy proceedings, which are a speedier solution for smaller enterprises and debt relief solutions for individuals;
- restructuring proceedings;
- public preventive restructuring, including early warning tools;
- liquidation proceedings, including additional liquidation proceedings.
The information published in the Insolvency Register will be deemed public and does not need to be further evidenced with the public authorities or in commercial relations. In addition, apart from some exemptions on insolvency proceedings under previous laws, this information will no longer be published in the Commercial Journal.
The register includes:
- Details of ongoing and completed insolvency, pre-insolvency, and liquidation proceedings.
- Information about the parties involved, such as debtors, creditors, insolvency administrators, and courts.
- Key documents and decisions issued during the proceedings.
- Deadlines and procedural steps relevant to each case, e.g. for the registration of claims, calling the first creditors’ meeting, and publishing the list of assets.
Main Benefits for Businesses and Creditors
The introduction of the new Insolvency Register is expected to bring several advantages:
- Transparency: All stakeholders will have immediate access to up-to-date information such as filings, claims, decisions. This reduces the risk of fraud, increases trust in the insolvency process, and facilitates better and easier public control.
- Efficiency and centralised records: The centralised system will simplify the process of monitoring and participating in insolvency proceedings, saving businesses and legal professionals time and administrative costs. Each extract from the register will thus be up-to-date and reflect pre-insolvency, insolvency as well as the liquidation situation of the requested entity or person. The register also contains a special section on assets for sale, the procurement of services for trustees (e.g. archiving), and respective electronic forms in the same place.
- Acceleration of proceedings: The digitisation of processes eliminates delays in the delivery and verification of data.
The system is designed to be user-friendly, with search and filtering functions to help users quickly find the information they need.
Conclusion
The launch of the new Insolvency Register marks a significant step forward for Slovakia’s business and legal environment. By increasing transparency, reducing administrative burdens, and providing a reliable source of information, the register will make it easier for businesses to assess risks, protect their interests, and participate effectively in insolvency proceedings. From October 2025, this reform is expected to contribute to a more predictable and trustworthy business climate in Slovakia.
