Access to insolvency registers for EU Member States

2014-07

As of 7 July 2014, the European e-Justice Portal provides single access point to insolvency registers for data of natural persons and corporate entities in the EU. The portal is part of the pilot project of the European Commission and links up the national insolvency databases of seven Member States: the Czech Republic, Germany, Estonia, the Netherlands, Austria, Romania and Slovenia.

Companies, creditors and investors can now check the insolvency of individuals and corporate entities in the EU free of charge and in one place. The system offers a simple search by using the debtor's name in the insolvency registers of each Member State, while the advanced search allows searching by using various criteria, in accordance with the national legislation governing the insolvency procedures. Data is available in all EU languages.

In the scope of the modernisation of the European insolvency law, a new insolvency regulation is expected to be adopted by the end of the year. Within the next four years, it will be obligatory for Member States to publish key information related to insolvency proceedings, which will improve the efficiency and effectivenesss of cross-border insolvency proceedings.

The register is accessible on the following website: https://e-justice.europa.eu/external.do?idTaxonomy=246&plang=en&init=true
