Vassilis Karantounias serves as an Of Counsel in the Data Protection & Privacy and Competition & EU practices at the CMS EU Law Office in Brussels.
Vassilis has broad expertise in EU law as well as in Greek commercial and administrative law with strong background in litigation and arbitration. He focusses on data protection issues where he is IAPP-certified (CIPP/E, CIPM). He advises clients of several industries, including life sciences and high tech, on GDPR remediation and compliance, and data breaches. Vassilis is also active in gambling regulations and intellectual property law.
Vassilis joined CMS in 2018. Previously, he worked in the European Commission, dealing inter alia with state aid, privatisations and corporate restructuring. Before that, Vassilis practised law in Athens and was Partner to a top-tier Greek law firm. He has been repeatedly ranked and featured, in global and European legal guides, among best lawyers in Greece in the areas of dispute resolution, employment, financial & corporate, and real estate & construction.
