Katerina Novakova is Counsel in CMS Sofia's Energy & Climate Change practice.She has more than 20 years of experience advising clients on energy, infrastructure, project finance, regulatory and corporate matters. Her practice focuses on renewable energy projects, sustainable investments, ESG compliance, corporate governance and energy sector regulation. 

Prior to joining CMS, Katerina was Counsel, a leading member of Projects, Regulatory and M&A teams and ESG and Sustainability Lead at Wolf Theiss, where she advised on numerous renewable energy, sustainable finance and infrastructure transactions. In the last several years, she has acted as lead counsel on more than 40 renewable energy transactions, financings and greenfield developments, for both buyers and sellers. Her experience includes sustainable investment frameworks, environmental and ESG compliance, projects development, sustainability strategy and business restructuring, and financing matters. Katerina has acted on a significant number of renewable energy and infrastructure projects, including renewable energy acquisitions, financing transactions and greenfield developments. She has also advised international financial institutions, investors, lenders and developers on complex energy and sustainability-related matters. Her practice also covers complex commercial disputes and arbitration in the energy sector.

Before entering private practice, Katerina held senior legal and management positions at Overgas Inc. AD, one of Bulgaria's leading natural gas companies, where she advised on regulatory compliance, public procurement and strategic energy projects. This in-house background gives her a practical, business-focused understanding of her clients' commercial and regulatory challenges.
