Dr Charles Poncet and Dr David Hofmann of CMS von Erlach Poncet Geneva argued the Arnaud Bédat v. Switzerland case in the Grand Chamber (17 judges) of the ECHR on Wednesday May 12th.
The case was referred to the Grand Chamber at the request of the Swiss Government after a first decision in the applicant’s favour by the Second Section.
The case involves several important issues concerning freedom of the press and was brought by Swiss journalist Arnaud Bédat with the support of the Ringier Group, the editor of the Swiss weekly L’Illustré.
Dr Poncet and Dr Hofmann submitted their arguments in English and in French, which are the two official languages of the ECHR.
