Fabien Liegeois, a full professor since 2023, is actively involved in the Centre for Banking and Financial Law of the Faculty of Law of the University of Geneva and at the Department of Civil Law. He primarily teaches contract law and banking contracts. Since 2019, he has also been involved in the LL.M. program at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland.
Fabien Liegeois pursued his studies at the University of Geneva, where he earned his doctorate in law with the highest honors, "summa cum laude," in 2017. His thesis, titled “The Availability of Income”, explores the concept of income and the time value of money, focusing on the relations between private law and tax law. During this period, he conducted research at the University of California, Berkeley (2012-2013), supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation, and later completed an LL.M. at the University of Chicago Law School (2013-2014), which included Law & Economics and legal philosophy courses.
Admitted to the bars of Geneva (ranked 2nd) and New York, Fabien Liegeois also obtained his diploma as a certified tax expert in 2019. As a lawyer, he defends individuals and businesses suspected of tax offenses and provides advice on restructuring, cross-border transactions, and relocations to Switzerland. He participated in the “Michel Nançoz” rhetoric competition, where he received an accessit mention. In 2024, he was appointed to the Board of Directors of the “École d’avocature”.
Fabien Liegeois is the author of numerous publications in banking and tax law. He was awarded the OREF Prize ex aequo in 2010 for his work on banking secrecy and international administrative assistance. In 2022, he published a book titled “Foundations of International Corporate Taxation: A Swiss Perspective.” He is currently contributing to the 6th edition of a treatise on banking practice contracts.
