Łukasz Szymański is an attorney-at-law and a counsel in the Banking and Finance Practice, he is the head of Financial Services Regulatory at CMS Poland. W

He has over 17 years of experience in providing legal advice to banks, insurers, leasing companies, factoring companies, insurance agents, and lending companies. His practice focuses on areas including banking law, insurance law, financial market consumer protection, AML, sanctions, payment services, leasing and factoring regulations, and process digitization.

Łukasz regularly serves as a mediator at the Mediation Centre of the Arbitration Court at the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF), and since November 2023, he has also been appointed as an arbitrator of this court. Łukasz is a graduate of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw and also studied at the Faculty of Law of Pázmány Péter Catholic University in Budapest. For over a decade, he lectured at the Department of Civil Law and Private International Law at Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University, primarily teaching civil law.

Before joining CMS, he worked at Deloitte Legal, Wardyński & Wspólnicy, K&L Gates, TaylorWessing, and the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF).

  • PKO BP on legal and tax matters related to shareholder and matrix governance, as well as internal governance structuring.
  • PKO BP on opening its branches in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
  • PKO Leasing on the legal assessment of contract templates in terms of the presence of abusive clauses.
  • TUW PZUW on regulatory aspects of its insurance services in Hungary, including legal and compliance assessment under the Hungarian regulatory framework.
  • Mercedes-Benz Bank Polska on its potential transformation scenarios, including opening a branch, cross-border activities, a label program, establishing a consumer finance company, or bank liquidation.
