18 November 2020

International law firm CMS is delighted to announce the appointment of Babita Ambekar as a Corporate partner based in the firm’s Singapore office. Babita joins from DWF where she was a partner and Global Head of India Practice in Singapore.

Babita advises on transactions for clients across a broad range of industries, including technology, energy (renewables), life sciences, retail, food and hospitality. Her clients are primarily based in Asia Pacific, with the majority in Southeast Asia, India and Japan, and include publicly listed entities, private entities with a regional presence, and multinationals.

Babita has been recognised as a leading lawyer in top legal rankings and directories, including The Legal 500 and AsiaLaw Profiles. She is also ranked in India Business Law Journal’s A-List 2020 as one of the top 100 India-focused legal practitioners globally and was recognised as “NRI Lawyer of the Year” by the Indian National Bar Association in 2019.

Toby Grainger, Managing Partner and Head of Corporate at CMS in Singapore, comments: “We are pleased to welcome Babita to CMS. Her arrival is a wonderful opportunity for the firm to continue to grow and develop its offering in the Asia Pacific region, and we are very happy to introduce an APAC-focused India desk to our Singapore office. As emerging economies in Asia continue to see investment inflows, Babita’s appointment expands the firm’s broad bench of transaction and geographical experts and strengthens our capabilities in offering clients top-tier advice across a range of sectors. With Babita on board, we now have a 10-partner team in Singapore, which is 50% female. As a firm which strongly values diversity and inclusion, we are very proud of this development.”

Babita adds: “I am delighted to be joining CMS. I am incredibly impressed with the firm’s global proposition, which enables it to serve clients in more than 40 countries worldwide. The firm’s multi-jurisdictional capabilities and strong international reputation offer a great platform for the growth and development of my practice.”
