Alberto Mata Rodríguez is the Head of the Banking & Finance Department. He joined CMS as a lateral in September 2023.
Prior to joining the firm, he was (for the last 8 years), the Head of Legal in Iberia of Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG, a specialist bank for real estate finance and public finance (energy and infrastructure). During that time, he had notable recognitions, among others, by Legal 500 who included him in its GC Power List Spain (2018) and the Choiseul Institute who highlighted him as one of the top fifty Economic Leaders for Tomorrow in Spain for years 2018 and 2019.
He previously worked at Gómez-Acebo & Pombo for 8 years and has continuously collaborated with the World Bank from 2014 to 2020.
He is one of the few lawyers in Spain who is qualified to practice not only in Spain but also in the State of New York (U.S.) and he pursued a LL.M. (Securities & Financial Regulation) from Georgetown Law (Washington DC, US) in 2013.
Alberto is an adjunct professor (i) of Business Law at IE Law School and (ii) Trust and Torts at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.
Furthermore, he currently acts as Secretary of UNICEF Madrid Committee; Vice-President of HogarSí Foundation; and he is member of the Board of Trustees of the U.S. Foundation “Instituto Americano”; member of the European Law Alumni Advisory Board of Georgetown Law; and member of the Board of Directors of PRIMERO H SOCIMI SOCIAL – first SOCIAL REIT in Spain.
During his career, he has received multiple awards, such as the IBA Outstanding Young Lawyer of the Year in Recognition of William Reece Jr. Award (2013); Universidad Carlos III Excellence Award for Alumni (2014); and IE Law School Academic Teaching Excellence Award (2023).
