CMS Bureau Francis Lefebvre acted as advisor to Gaumont in its acquisition of Nouvelles Editions de Films (NEF), which holds the rights to the cinematographic works of Louis Malle.
The catalogue includes virtually all of the films in which French film director Louis Malle participated, including Lift to the Scaffold, The Lovers, Atlantic City and Zazie in the Metro as well as Au Revoir les Enfants, Lacombe Lucien, May Fools and Alain Cavalier's debut film Le Combat Dans L'Île.
Founded in 1956 and managed successively by the Malle brothers, Jean-François, Louis and Vincent, NEF had been owned by Louis Malle's children since his death in 1995.
This acquisition has enhanced Gaumont’s film catalogue, which now includes more than 900 films, documentaries, television series, animated features and more, in alignment with the group’s strategy of restoring and capitalizing on the works in its portfolio.
Gaumont was advised on the legal aspects of the transaction by Bruno Peillon, Partner, and Thomas Bortoli, Lawyer, from CMS Bureau Francis Lefebvre’s Corporate Department.
Louis Malle’s children were advised by Carol Fontanille from law firm Fontanille.
