Job Description

CMS is a future-facing law firm. With more than 90 offices in over 45 countries and 7,200+ lawyers worldwide, we combine deep local market understanding with a global perspective.

CMS is one of the world's leading international law firms, bringing together more than 7,200 lawyers across 90+ offices in over 45 countries.

At CMS Luxembourg, we offer the unique combination of a truly international platform and a human-sized office. With more than 70 lawyers, our teams work closely together in a collaborative, approachable and entrepreneurial environment, advising leading financial institutions, investment funds, multinational groups and corporate clients on complex Luxembourg and cross-border matters.

For students and young graduates, this means the opportunity to gain meaningful hands-on experience, work alongside recognised experts and develop an international network from the very beginning of their career.

To support the growth of our Banking & Finance practice, we are currently looking for a Legal Intern for a period of 3 to 6 months.

Your Role

From day one, you will be fully integrated into our Banking & Finance team and actively involved in ongoing matters. Working closely with associates, counsels and partners, you will gain hands-on exposure to sophisticated legal work and international transactions.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting associates, counsels and partners on a broad range of Banking & Finance matters;
  • Conducting legal research and preparing analyses in support of ongoing client work;
  • Assisting in the drafting and review of finance documents, legal memoranda and client deliverables;
  • Supporting financing transactions throughout their lifecycle, including due diligence, signing and closing processes;
  • Preparing reports, transaction summaries and corporate documentation;
  • Participating in client meetings and internal training sessions;
  • Contributing to the team’s know-how and knowledge management projects.

Through our international client base and global CMS network, you will work on a wide variety of matters in a truly multicultural and dynamic environment.

Your profile

  • You are pursuing or have completed a Master's degree (Master 1, Master 2, LLM or equivalent) in Law;
  • You have a strong interest in Banking & Finance and business law;
  • You are looking for a traineeship of 3 to 6 months, with a preference for 6-month internships;
  • You are fluent in English and French, both written and spoken; German would be an asset;
  • You demonstrate excellent analytical, drafting and research skills;
  • You are curious, proactive, organised and eager to learn;
  • You enjoy working as part of a team and thrive in an international environment.

What We Offer

At CMS Luxembourg, an internship is much more than an observation period.

We believe in giving interns meaningful responsibilities, real client exposure and practical learning opportunities from the outset.

A truly international experience

  • Work on cross-border matters involving multiple CMS offices worldwide;
  • Interact with colleagues and clients from diverse jurisdictions and backgrounds;
  • Benefit from the strength of one of the largest international law firm networks.

A human-sized and supportive environment

  • Accessible partners and lawyers who are genuinely invested in your development;
  • A young, collaborative and inclusive culture where questions are encouraged;
  • Close mentoring and regular feedback throughout your internship.

A strong learning platform

  • Exposure to high-quality Banking & Finance work for leading international clients;
  • Internal training sessions and practical on-the-job development;
  • Opportunity to build both technical expertise and commercial awareness.

A potential gateway to future opportunities

  • Opportunity to build long-term relationships within CMS and benefit from the strength of our international network;
  • Possibility to pursue further internship experiences within the CMS network, including PPI internships, final internships and, where available, opportunities in other CMS offices worldwide;
  • CMS Luxembourg is committed to identifying and developing future talent. Subject to performance, business needs and available opportunities, successful interns may be considered for future trainee, graduate or junior lawyer positions within the Firm;
  • Valuable international exposure and connections that can help shape the next steps of your legal career.
