Evert Alan Sánchez Alonso

Evert is a senior associate specializing in energy and natural resources with expertise in Regulatory, Transactional, M&A and Project Finance.

Evert has broad experience in domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, upstream, midstream project development, as well as power purchase agreements, hedging contracts, EPC, energy management agreements, JOA, NAESB and other commodity trading transactions. He has represented energy suppliers, project developers, NOC, IOC, power and gas utilities and other energy industry participants in Mexico.

His practice includes projects involving solar and wind, renewable projects, natural gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG), crude and natural gas pipelines, processing facilities and storage assets and marketing refined products.

He has also been involved in developing compliance reviews and internal policy development for multinational energy companies and has advised clients in the implementation of compliance and antibribery programs. 

Relevant experience

  • Provided legal advice to Mitsui Power Americas in the transaction entailing the sale of six power plants and a natural gas pipeline located in Mexico to Actis.
  • Provided legal advice to BANCOMEXT for the US$240 million project financing of the Orejana and Santa María photovoltaic farms.
  • Represented new participants in the open seasons called by Pemex for the use of its storage facilities and transportation pipelines in the north of Mexico.
  • Represented a Fortune 500 company opening its first branded gas stations in Mexico and in securing the permits to for the retail of fuels.
  • Represented multiple clients in the public bids corresponding to Round 1 and Round 2 called by the National Hydrocarbons Commission (CNH) for the award of E&P contracts and during the negotiation of the corresponding JOA.
  • Provided legal advice to a U.S. company in the public bids called by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), including the cross-border project between South of Texas – Tuxpan, Veracruz.
  • Represented an international oil company in order to process and obtain all applicable permits for a Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading Unit (“FPSO”) in order to operate in a contractual area in the Gulf of Mexico.
  • Provided legal advice on corporate and regulatory energy matters, including: oil and gas (upstream, midstream and downstream), power and renewable energy projects, government procurement and environmental.
  • Represented multiple clients in the long term auctions called by CENACE for the award of PPA for the purchase and sale of power, capacity and clean energy certificates.
  • Represented traders and power generators obtaining the permits and authorizations required to participate in the wholesale power market.
  • Represented a Dutch company in the provision of transportation, storage, distribution, trading and retail services of oil products.
  • Provided legal advise to a Fortune 500 company in the negotiation of an O&M with the Mexican NOC for the provision of certain petroleum services in the Gulf of Mexico in connection with an E&P contract awarded to the NOC.
  • Successfully represented petroleum operators in multiple administrative procedures carried out by the Hydrocarbons Environmental Agency of Mexico (ASEA) related to environmental audits.
