Public transport company Qbuzz B.V. will provide the public transportation in the city region of Utrecht as of December 2013. That is the outcome of a tender issued by Regional Administration Utrecht (Bestuur Regio Utrecht). Besides Qbuzz B.V. also OV Region Utrecht B.V. (with sole shareholder Connexxion Public Transport N.V.) had provided an application for this concession.
The application by Qbuzz offered the best value for money for the region and the passenger. The new concession has a term of ten years and covers public transport with buses or trams, including the future Uithof Line. The city region of Utrecht will soon have the cleanest fleet of the Netherlands with buses that meet the stringent Euro VI environmental standard.
CMS assisted Qbuzz with their successful application. A team consisting of lawyers Bram Braat, Petra Heemskerk and Bob van Zijl, advised the public transport company.
Qbuzz was founded in April 2008 by Rob van Holten, Leon Struijk and NS. It is the only Dutch public transport company active in the market of public transport concessions and competes in this market with foreign (listed) companies. Qbuzz has acquired three concessions in the past period by providing high quality public transport. This new concession is still to be added. Qbuzz already transports approximately 100,000 passengers every day with 1,700 employees and 500 buses.
