One of Maciej’s main areas of interest is advising the media industry on concluding content distribution agreements (including audiovisual). He has advised companies operating in the IT, media, business services, and financial sectors. He rejoined CMS in September of this year, having spent two years at DLA Piper (in 2008-2015 also at CMS).
  • Paulina Komorowska, advocate, with over 6 years’ experience in advising on data protection, intellectual property, including e-commerce, consumer protection and competition matters. Recently she has been mainly involved in advising on issues related to the GDPR. She also offers complex legal advice on online business operations. Paulina also deals with issues concerning the point at which the right to privacy meets competition and consumer protection in the context of new technologies (Big Data). She has been working with CMS since September, previously being associated with PwC Legal and WKB. She is the author of various publications, and the co-author of one of the leading commentaries on the Competition and Consumer Protection Act. Paulina is also a doctoral student at the Institute of Legal Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
  • Damian Karwala, legal advisor with more than 12 years of experience in the field of personal data protection and broadly understood new technologies law, has been advising CMS clients since July of this year. Damian specialises in legal issues related to the protection of personal data, cyber security, IT, e-commerce and digitisation. He has served key clients in the telecommunications, financial-insurance, pharmaceutical, technology and media sectors, leading insurance companies and operators of the largest Internet services in Poland. Recently, he has been focusing on advice relating to the EU Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), preparing clients for new legal requirements. Previously, as a legal expert of trade organisations, he also participated in consultative work on the GDPR. The Chambers Europe international legal ranking lists him as an "associate to watch" in the category of personal data protection between 2015 and 2017. Prior to joining CMS, Damian worked at Traple Konarski and Podrecki and DLA Piper.
  • Anna Szczygieł, a trainee advocate, will be supporting the other team members in relation to new technology law and projects related to the implementation of the GDPR. At CMS since October, she was previously at Everberg. Anna's experience includes auditing websites and mobile applications as regards compliance with the provisions of the Act on the protection of personal data and consumer law, as well as drafting intellectual property agreements. She focused on intellectual property and personal data as a student of the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Warsaw, where she headed the Intellectual Property Scientific Study Group.

"We are growing very intensively, as our customers are increasingly focusing on innovation and the development of new technologies and thus need legal support in this area. Having almost doubled the size of our team, including the acquisition of experienced lawyers, we will be able to advise on the most demanding projects on the Polish market and expand our client base in Poland and the region," emphasises Tomasz Koryzma, partner leading the intellectual property and technology practice at CMS Poland and CMS’ intellectual property rights practice in Central and Eastern Europe.

CMS’ intellectual property and technology practice is currently made up of ten people. In the prestigious international Chambers Europe and Legal 500 rankings, this practice is recognised as a leader in Poland. In this year's Insight Ranking of Regulatory Policy Chambers, CMS’ data protection practice was recognised as one of the leading in Poland. The team is headed by Tomasz Koryzma, partner and legal advisor that Chambers & Partners describes as a leading specialist in new technology and data protection (Band 1 and Band 2), while Legal 500 recognises him as one of the top three lawyers in the field of new technology law.

In May 2017, CMS combined with, among others, international law firm Olswang, considered a leader in the technology, intellectual property and media sector, which further strengthened CMS’ position, including that of its Warsaw intellectual property and technology practice, in these areas.
