CMS Poland announces 35 promotions

International law firm CMS announces the promotion of 35 lawyers, including eight new counsels - effective 1 July 2022.

The following have become counsels at CMS in Poland: Maciej Andrzejewski from the Employment practice; Artur Bednarski and Krzysztof Mrozik from the Banking and Finance practice; Paulina Karpińska-Huzior from the Tax practice; Damian Karwala from the Intellectual Property/TMT practice; Maciej Kópczyński from the Dispute Resolution practice; Katarzyna Szostak from the Real Estate and Construction practice; and Grzegorz Pączek from the Corporate/M&A practice.

Maciej Andrzejewski, advocate, who for 11 years has been specialising in individual and collective labour law, civil law, and social insurance. As a counsel, he intends to develop the Employment practice, among others as regards the financial sector. He joined the CMS Employment team in 2011. He is recommended by Legal 500 as a Rising Star in the field of labour law.

Artur Bednarski, advocate, who has been specialising for 10 years in the financing of undertakings, and specifically in credit facilities, bonds and restructuring, including bankruptcy. As a counsel, he intends to develop the Banking and Finance practice, predominantly in the area of debt restructuring. He has been working for CMS since 2020. He is recommenced by Chambers Europe as a lawyer in the banking and finance category.

Paulina Karpińska-Huzior, advocate, tax advisor, who for 14 years has been specialising in tax proceedings, proceedings relating to public obligations, and criminal fiscal proceedings. As a counsel, she intends to develop the Tax practice in relation to public law settlements. Paulina has been working for CMS since 2018. She is recommended by Legal 500 as a lawyer specialising in tax law.

Damian Karwala, PhD in law, attorney-at-law, has for 17 years been specialising in new technologies law, including personal data protection, cybersecurity, IT, telecommunications, e-commerce, and digitalisation. As a counsel, he will develop the TMT practice, and specifically with regard to personal data protection and cybersecurity. Damian has been working for CMS since 2017. He is recommended by Chambers Europe as a lawyer specialising in personal data protection and by Legal 500 in the field of new technologies, media and telecommunications (TMT).

Maciej Kópczyński, advocate, who has been specialising for 14 years in criminal cases, compliance and commercial disputes. As a counsel, he intends to develop the Dispute Resolution practice, with specific attention being paid to white-collar crime, including compliance, and internal investigations of irregularities in companies. He joined CMS in 2011. He is recommended by Legal 500 in white-collar crime.

Krzysztof Mrozik, advocate, who has been specialising for more than 10 years in advice in project financing, and specifically in financing granted in the form of credit facilities or loans. As a counsel, he intends to develop the Banking and Finance practice, and specifically the financing of projects related to renewable energy sources (RES) and export financing. He joined the CMS Banking and Finance team in 2018. Previously he worked for a leading European bank in Vienna, where he gained experience in international transactions, specifically in Central and Eastern Europe.

Grzegorz Pączek, advocate, who for 10 years has been specialising in corporate law, due diligence processes, as well as domestic and international M&A transactions. As a counsel, he intends to develop the Corporate/M&A practice. He has been working for CMS since 2013, from the beginning of his professional career. Grzegorz is recommenced by Legal 500 in the field of corporate law and M&A.

Katarzyna Szostak, attorney-at-law, who has been specialising in real estate law for eight years. As a counsel, she intends to develop the Real Estate and Construction practice, which she joined in 2017. Previously she worked as an in-house lawyer for a real estate investment group and in law firms. Katarzyna is the author of numerous training sessions covering industry-related issues.

The following were promoted to senior associates: Mateusz Gerlach from the Dispute Resolution practice; Karol Kozłowski from the Tax practice; Ada Szon from the Energy and Infrastructure Projects practice; Paweł Śliwka from the Real Estate and Construction practice; and Adriana Zdanowicz-Leśniak from the Intellectual Property/TMT practice. 

New associates are: Jan Bujak and Katarzyna Sokołowska from the Dispute Resolution practice; Wanesa Choptiany and Marcin Krzemień from the Banking and Finance practice; Aleksandra Gajzlerska and Damian Święcioch from the Employment practice; Bartłomiej Głąbiński and Patrycja Styczyńska from the Energy and Projects practice; Katarzyna Łoś and Agata Władzińska from the Competition practice; Dominika Pietkun, Mateusz Mazur, Jakub Rykowski and Natalia Szurnicka from the Corporate/M&A practice; as well as Magdalena Piotrowska-Gwiazdowska and Aleksandra Socha-Hottewitzsch from the Real Estate and Construction practice.

The following five persons were promoted to lawyers: Marika Brokos and Arleta Myśliwiec from the Real Estate and Construction practice; Agnieszka Czopska from the Intellectual Property/TMT practice; Hubert Jastrzębski and Aleksandra Szałańska from the Employment practice; Bartosz Potrykus from the Banking and Finance practice; and Adrianna Roszak from the Energy and Projects practice.
