CMS strengthens its Banking & Finance practice

International law firm CMS has strengthened its Banking & Finance practice in Poland with the appointment of Paweł Wajda and Iwona Ciszyńska in its Warsaw office.

Paweł Wajda is a professor at the Faculty of Law and Administration of Warsaw University and a post-graduate programme lecturer at the Warsaw School of Economics. He will support CMS as an of-counsel in the regulatory advice team. 

Paweł specialises in the regulated markets, including banking, insurance and capital markets. He brings experience in regulatory advice, compliance, implementation of regulations, administration of investment funds, as well as in conducting proceedings before administrative courts. He has also advised leading financial institutions in cases instituted by the Polish Financial Supervision Authority, the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection, the Financial Ombudsman, and EU authorities including EBA, ESMA and EIOPA.

Paweł is also a member of the management board of System Ochrony Banków Komercyjnych S.A. (SOBK), a company established by the eight largest commercial banks in Poland. SOBK’s mission is to improve the financial security of its members and customers’ funds, as well as the stability of the banking sector, by supporting the special resolution regime (compulsory restructuring and takeover) set up by the Bank Guarantee Fund. 

In addition, the restructuring and insolvency team has been bolstered by the arrival of associate Iwona Ciszyńska, an advocate who bring insights into insolvency and restructuring law. For more than five years, Iwona has been advising financial institutions and other businesses in insolvency, court and restructuring proceedings, as well as in-court and out-of-court enforcement of collateral security. She has also supported banks, investment funds and businesses in recovering debt under loans, bonds and commercial contracts. Iwona Ciszyńska graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administration at Warsaw University. She previously worked for Baker McKenzie and Allen & Overy.
