Karol Macias is an attorney-at-law and Senior Associate in the Dispute Resolution practice at CMS.

He focuses on commercial and corporate disputes and provides strategic advice in contentious proceedings.

Karol advises Polish and international companies in complex civil and commercial disputes and represents clients before Polish common courts and arbitral tribunals. He supports clients throughout the entire dispute resolution lifecycle - from the initial assessment of a case and formulation of strategy, through settlement discussions and court or arbitration proceedings, all the way to the final enforcement of judgments or awards.

His experience includes a wide range of corporate and commercial disputes, including post-M&A disputes, contractual liability matters and damages claims. He has participated in numerous international arbitration proceedings conducted under leading arbitration rules, including UNCITRAL, ICC and SCC, relating to large cross-border business projects. One of the proceedings in which he was involved resulted in one of the highest investment arbitration awards in Europe in terms of the value of damages granted.

Karol also works on damages claims arising from breaches of competition law (private enforcement), including some of the first widely discussed cases of this type in Poland. He also handles disputes related to the implementation of major investment and infrastructure projects, including construction projects and investments in the energy sector, particularly renewable energy projects.
He represents clients from sectors including banking and finance, private equity, infrastructure and energy, and technology.

Karol is also a coach of the University of Warsaw team in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, in which he previously participated three times as a competitor.

He has been recognised by Chambers and Partners in the Arbitration category as an Associate to Watch and by Legal500 as Recommended Lawyer is Disputes Category.
