Dr Magdalena Jaczewska-Żurek

Magdalena Jaczewska-Żurek is an Attorney-at-Law and Senior Associate in the Banking and Finance practice at CMS Poland.  

Magdalena focuses on financial regulatory matters, in particular advising banks, leasing companies, loan companies and insurance companies. She advises clients in the areas of compliance (with a particular focus on AML issues), payment services, banking law and financial sector regulations.

She combines her academic and professional experience in the area of national and international AML regulations. In this respect, she provides advice to financial and non-financial obliged institutions.

Magdalena has conducted dozens of training sessions for financial institutions. She is a regular lecturer at national and international conferences and the author of numerous publications in recognised scientific periodicals, trade journals and monographs.

She graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Warsaw and the Finance and Accounting Faculty of the Warsaw School of Economics. In 2022, she defended her PhD thesis at the Department of European Union Law at the University of Warsaw.

Before joining CMS, she gained experience at international law firms operating in the Polish market, i.e. Hogan Lovells, Baker McKenzie, Deloitte Legal and Taylor Wessing.

Relevant experience

  • Supporting a bank exercising consolidated supervision within the capital group in relation to arranging matrix supervision over subsidiaries.
  • Preparing internal AML procedures for financial and non-financial obliged institutions; Conducting internal audits of regulations and updating risk assessments.
  • Providing legal advice on the liquidation of a bank.
  • Representing a mutual insurance company in arbitration proceedings related to a payment under an insurance policy in connection with a coal mine fire.
  • Providing ongoing legal support to the compliance department of a commercial bank with regard to payment service regulations, banking law, and consumer protection, among other things.
  • Providing legal advisory services to a reinsurance company in relation to updating its remuneration policy.
