CMS business breakfast: solid know-how for successful expansion to China

20/09/2018

CMS has years of experience helping companies move to China. A good reason, therefore, for a CMS business breakfast with other knowledgeable experts on China, looking at current trends and answering important questions relating to financing, setting up companies, developing a business and much more.

Trade between Austria and China is flourishing, and China has long been Austria's most important trading partner in Asia. However, entering a market like China requires intensive research into their legislation. CMS in Vienna saw this as an opportunity to host a business breakfast on the current issues surrounding expansion to China. CMS has extensive knowledge on this, as the firm has guided clients through Chinese regulations and legislation successfully already since the 1990s.

One of the speakers was CMS China expert Jeanette Yu, CMS partner in China, who has advised European companies for more than 15 years. Together with Dietmar Schwank, WKÖ Regional Manager for the Far East & Oceania, and Dieter Hengl, member of the Executive Board at UniCredit Bank Austria and an expert on export and trade finance, the speakers instructed some 50 participants on the legal requirements in terms of establishing companies, labour law issues, financing options and on how data can be protected by the new Cyber Security Law.

CMS’ comprehensive knowledge on expansion into China

Peter Huber, Managing Partner at CMS in Vienna, emphasises CMS’ extensive knowledge of expanding into China: “CMS has been working in China for almost three decades. There are currently more than 40 lawyers working in the CMS branches in Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong, supporting European companies with their entry into the Chinese market, whether they're looking to develop their export business or set up a production facility in China.”

CMS’ experts offer customised advice for all industries and can also help overcome linguistic and cultural hurdles. As arbitration procedures are increasingly gaining in importance in the region, CMS has been involved in establishing the Chinese European Arbitration Centre (CEAC) and has joined the Arbitration Chambers in Hong Kong.
