CMS Sofia acted as the lead legal advisor to DSK Bank AD (part of the OTP Group) and the sponsors — leading Bulgarian renewable energy developers — in connection with the project financing of seven significant renewable energy initiatives in Bulgaria. These initiatives consist of battery energy storage systems (BESS).

The financing package, totaling approximately EUR 40 million, will enable the construction and operation of the seven new BESS, each with a capacity of 215 MWh. The BESS will be located in five different regions of the country: Vratsa, Ivaylovgrad, Pazardzhik, Rudozem, and Haskovo. These projects are a significant step forward in developing Bulgaria’s renewable energy infrastructure and transitioning to a more sustainable energy mix.

CMS provided comprehensive legal support throughout all stages of the transaction, from initial due diligence and structuring and negotiating financing documentation to signing, ensuring a smooth and efficient process for all parties involved.

The CMS Sofia team was led by Gergov Ivan and Philcheva Anna and supported by Zwiatkow Dimitar, Altandzhiyski Konstantin, Mitovski Pavlik, Anastasova Desislava, and Kehayova Antonia.
