Your career as a lawyer at CMS
We support you on your career path and assist you in achieving your personal career goals. Our career model offers you transparency in the individual career steps and clear promotion opportunities.
You will join us as an associate and get to know our law firm quickly through ongoing client work. You will have a mentor by your side who will provide you with expert support. We will invite you to our welcome event during the first few months of your employment. There you will get to know the new lawyers from all offices and practice areas.
We have great confidence in your work. After two years, we will usually appoint you to senior associate. From now on, you will develop your expert profile and take part in targeted training courses at the CMS Academy.
After a further three years, there is the opportunity to become counsel. You will expand on your professional expertise and also complete an international secondment.
The step to principal counsel or partner is open from your eighth year.

Our CMS Academy offers you a training programme specially designed for your career as a commercial lawyer. We develop your communication, presentation, information, innovation, marketing, entrepreneurial and leadership skills as you need them.
More favourable work-life balance through a part-time career
Our part-time model allows you to combine work and family life. We treat part-time employment of 80 % as full-time employment, so this poses no disadvantages for your career. CMS regularly appoints partners who previously worked part-time. You can choose to adopt this working model when you start your career or at a later date. One fifth of legal staff at CMS already take advantage of this flexible career path.

Not only will the CMS Academy programmes help you, but so will your personal career coach as part of the mentoring and the ongoing transfer of know-how between you and experienced colleagues and partners.
