Embracing AI at CMS
If you want to do more than just provide legal advice — if you also want to think ahead — CMS is the right place for you. We combine legal excellence with a commitment to continuous improvement and to actively shaping the future of legal services.
Legal excellence is and remains our benchmark. Only the path to achieving it is changing. Artificial intelligence does not replace legal expertise, as legal analysis, strategic thinking, and responsibility toward our clients are profoundly human tasks. It is precisely these skills that define the quality of our advice and which are becoming even more important in conjunction with AI.
At the same time, the use of artificial intelligence at CMS is not a promise for the future, but already an integral part of our daily practice. We use technology where it meaningfully complements legal work and supports our lawyers, for example in the rapid assessment of complex issues, the structured analysis of large volumes of information, and the efficient handling of recurring tasks.
Furthermore, with our in-house development team, we go one step further by developing our own AI-based solutions that enable new forms of legal analysis and deliver results that would not be achievable in this form without technological support. In this way, we create space for even deeper legal substance, entrepreneurial thinking, and personalised advice.
At CMS, you’ll work at the intersection of law, technology, and innovation. You’ll actively shape the use of AI, further develop your technical and strategic skills, and work in a firm that views technological developments not as an end in themselves, but as a tool for better, future-proof legal advice.
Getting started at the interface between law and tech
New colleagues who join CMS bring not only legal expertise but also a curiosity to think things through. Whether your background is in traditional law or interdisciplinary fields: if you’re eager to question established practices, help shape solutions, and bring fresh perspectives to the table, you’ll find the right entry point with us.
In addition to traditional legal careers, exciting roles are opening up at the intersection of law, technology, and consulting — for example, in legal tech, product, or adoption contexts. What matters here is not technical perfectionism, but a creative drive and the willingness to take on responsibility.

AI Learning Journey
Strong AI proficiency doesn’t come from access to tools alone. It requires analytical thinking, sound judgment, and a keen sense of where AI actually adds value in day-to-day legal work — and where it doesn’t. That’s why we make targeted investments in your development, starting from day one and regardless of where you are in your career.
Our AI Learning Journey is built on four pillars:
- Understanding AI – gaining a solid foundation of knowledge and realistically assessing its possibilities and limitations
- Applying AI – effective prompting and confident use of AI tools in daily work
- Positioning AI – developing AI-supported advisory approaches and scaling value for clients
- Accountability for AI – knowing and consistently applying legal and ethical guidelines
Your expertise grows step by step along these building blocks: from a solid foundation through practical deepening to independent integration into specific client engagements. Our workshops, training sessions, and hands-on use cases ensure that knowledge quickly turns into skill.
The CMS AI Camp
There’s a lot of talk about innovation. We want to make sure, that it actually makes a real difference in everyday life. That’s why we create formats where ideas aren’t just conceived, but developed together. The annual CMS AI Camp has been one of these formats since 2025.
With the AI Camp, we're creating a space where legal and technical expertise meet. Our colleagues dedicate three days to working on concrete AI use cases, expanding their skills, and gaining new experiences. The enthusiasm is palpable in all teams and encourages us to continuously develop the format. Dr Markus Kaulartz, Partner, CMS Germany |
Using a hackathon approach, interdisciplinary teams — comprising lawyers at all experience levels and colleagues from our Business Services, supported by internal legal tech and AI experts — develop concrete, scalable AI solutions that measurably enhance our advisory services. At the first AI Camp, our teams were able to develop to the point where they could present their project to clients during the event itself.
This is not an ideas lab on the fringes of the business. This is active participation at the heart of the firm.
Testimonials from our participants
"I'm thrilled with the event. The vibes, the full engagement of the participants, and the availability of the entire AI team with their specialised expertise were inspiring and meant that after three days we could go home with results, a forward-looking project, and a vision for the future."
"Excellent setting and great working atmosphere. [...] The format is very good, as you would never normally take the time to work on the project in such detail."
