Stuttgart – With the International Consolidation Centre (ICC) in Bischweier, Mercedes-Benz has created a central building block for its future production and logistics strategy. The new logistics centre comprises around 130,000 square metres of floor space on a 200,000 square metre site and was built in just twelve months. A CMS team led by Dr Volker Zerr provided legal advice to Mercedes-Benz on the long-term lease of the site.
In addition to its importance for Mercedes-Benz's logistics structure, the ICC is also setting standards in the area of sustainability, with plans to obtain DGNB Platinum certification. This is complemented by a large-scale photovoltaic system with an output of 8 MWp, the company's own rail siding and the recycling of around 140,000 cubic metres of demolition material from the former industrial site.
In future, the ICC will act as the central supply point for the global Mercedes-Benz production network. The site not only offers storage and pre-assembly capacities, but also strengthens the resilience of supply chains by concentrating material flows – both regionally and internationally. Around 500 new jobs will be created as a result of the site's operation.
