Munich – Private equity investor KKR has acquired i&u Information und Unterhaltung TV Produktion GmbH & Co. KG. Integration of this production company, which was established by well-known TV presenter Günther Jauch, is part of KKR’s strategy of developing an independent German media platform. The details of the transaction were not disclosed. Company founder Günther Jauch remains as a presenter and will advise the company going forward.
A CMS team headed by lead partner Dr Oliver Thurn advised i&u TV on all legal aspects of the deal.
Founded by Günther Jauch, i&u TV produces formats such as “Stern TV”, “Die ultimative Chartshow” and “Menschen, Bilder, Emotionen”. According to its own data, it has some of the best-known German TV presenters under contract. Cologne-based i&u TV employs around 140 people.
KKR is an international private equity firm based in London. It describes itself as a leading investor in a range of asset classes. It plans to establish an independent film studio in Germany, covering production, licensing and distribution. In addition to i&u TV, it recently acquired the Tele München Group, Universum Film and W&B Film.
