CMS Hasche Sigle and other CMS partner firms provide Handelsblatt publishing group with joint cross-border advice

01/09/2008

The publishing group Verlagsgruppe Handelsblatt (VHB), Duesseldorf, has sold its 88.36 percent majority interest in the Czech and Slovakian Economia group. The buyer is Respekt Media, a. s., which is owned by investor Zdenĕk Bakala; the present management will assume a minority interest.

An international team of lawyers from CMS partner firms from four European countries advised Handelsblatt on the transaction: CMS Hasche Sigle with lead partner Dr Christian von Lenthe, CMS Cameron McKenna (Prague office), CMS Derks Star Busmann, Amsterdam and CMS DeBacker, Brussels.

Economia is the leading media company for economic and financial information in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The company has over 400 employees. The flagships of the publishing house are the daily newspaper "Hospodářské noviny" and the weekly magazine EKONOM, both of which are published in the Czech Republic, and the newspaper HN, which appears daily in Slovakia.
