Stuttgart – The Stuttgart branch of CMS, Germany’s largest commercial law firm, has moved into a green building at Calwer Passage in Stuttgart city centre. After more than 28 years at the premises in Stuttgart’s Degerloch district where the company was founded, the international law firm’s Stuttgart office is now located on Theodor-Heuss-Strasse, becoming the anchor tenant in a pioneering project featuring sustainable and climate-compatible urban development. With around 11,000 plants on the eco-green façade and 40 trees on the terraces, Calwer Passage aims to make a lasting improvement to Stuttgart’s urban climate. The approximately 350 employees will benefit from a groundbreaking green working environment which also acts as an architectural showcase project in the heart of the city centre.

“Moving to this distinctive and highly visible green building is a perfect fit with our firm’s wide-ranging initiatives to promote sustainability,” said Dr Peter Wende, CMS’s local managing partner in Stuttgart, commenting on the new work environment. “We believe it’s important to offer employees a forward-looking, highly attractive working environment. As Germany’s largest commercial law firm, we are delighted to be able to provide excellent legal advice in such a unique setting and to welcome our clients here,” said Wende.

Dr Martin Vorsmann, Managing Partner of CMS Germany, added: “The CMS Sustainability Charter includes a commitment to creating a positive, inspiring and healthy working environment for all our employees. This green location in Stuttgart makes a key contribution to those ambitions, with our staff also coming closer together in a fresh and invigorating environment. We are proud of the new work setting and believe that this exceptional location in the heart of Stuttgart will also appeal to our clients.”

The Stuttgart office has a rich heritage. The firm has been a reliable partner in south-west Germany for companies seeking advice on national and international legal matters since 1962, operating out of its office in Stuttgart’s Degerloch district since 1970. In the recent past, the location’s highly regarded transaction teams have advised on some of the largest transactions in Germany and Europe. The Stuttgart-based Dispute Resolution practice, which also includes a Smart Litigation unit, advises DAX companies and multinationals on all aspects of complex and extensive disputes and represents them before courts and arbitration tribunals. In addition, CMS has a strong real estate transaction practice in Stuttgart and many years of expertise in employment, tax and banking law. CMS also advises on restructuring and competition law issues, climate change and the energy industry, as well as technology, media and communication topics. A respected Private Clients practice and frequent recommendations for patent law in relation to litigation, R&D collaboration and licensing are also features of the Stuttgart location. The Stuttgart CMS team is likewise frequently recommended in the life sciences sector.
