Cologne – CMS Hasche Sigle partner Dr Philipp Koehler passed away last weekend at the age of 45, after having been seriously ill for some time. Everyone in the firm has been deeply touched by his early death. Dr Philipp Koehler joined our Cologne office in 1999, where he was a key pillar of the team, both professionally and personally. He focused mainly on intellectual property and competition law, providing advice and conducting litigation on behalf of manufacturers of medicines, medical products and food, and for the automotive industry. He was highly regarded by clients for his shrewd analytical advice.

After studying in Constance, Freiburg, Münster and London, Dr Philipp Koehler began his career in 1995 as a research assistant at the Institute of Foreign and International Private Law in Freiburg; in 1998 he completed a doctoral degree in copyright law in Münster and a year later he gained a qualification in English commercial law in London. Dr Koehler was also the author of a number of specialist publications. These covered topics such as copyright and civil law problems in the online sector, comparative advertising, and the fate of intellectual property rights when a company becomes insolvent.

The partners are deeply shocked by the loss of a highly respected colleague and friend who leaves a huge void. We will always cherish Philipp Koehler's memory, and our thoughts are with his wife and two young daughters at this difficult time.
