Our new podcast CMS To Go: Listen in

18/08/2020

CMS goes podcast: In our new CMS To Go podcasts, our lawyers invite experts from various industry sectors to discuss a wide range of current topical issues in the legal world. Together with their guests, CMS lawyers will look at legal as well as business-related questions from different perspectives.

In our first podcast series, CMS partner John Hammond will be discussing the “Future after Brexit” with trade and industry insiders. The UK officially left the EU on 31 January 2020, with a new trade agreement between the EU and the UK currently being negotiated in the Brexit transition phase. After this period has ended, European law will no longer apply in the UK as of 1 January 2021. Until then, a number of issues still need to be resolved.

John Hammond’s first guest is Shanker Singham, an influential free trade proponent. He is the CEO of Competere, a trade and competition policy consultancy, former trade advisor to the UK Trade Secretary and the US Trade Representative. The first episode will focus on the status quo and key questions of the still outstanding trade agreement. Shanker will discuss the policy considerations behind the UK's approach to the negotiations and the upsides to the UK resuming control of its international trading relationships. Listen in:
