Cornelius Brandi specialises in corporate and maritime law.
Cornelius joined CMS Germany in 1983 (formerly Hasche Albrecht Fischer), became a partner in 1986 and was Managing Partner of the Hamburg office from 1996 to 1999. From 1999 to 2011, Cornelius was Managing Partner of CMS Germany and in this position, he initiated and negotiated mergers with various regional German law firms. During this period, he was responsible for consolidating these regional offices into a single national law firm and for integrating CMS Germany into the international CMS organisation. In his capacity as Managing Partner of CMS Germany, Cornelius was one of the key initiators and co-founders of CMS in June 1999 and was responsible for the creation of the founding agreement. He has been a member of the CMS Executive Committee since its inception in 1999 and its Chairman from 2008 to 2019. During his time as Chairman, Cornelius has managed various mergers and the integration of individual offices into one law firm as part of the CMS organisation which currently has over 70 offices and more than 4,800 lawyers worldwide.
Cornelius Brandi holds several positions with public and private institutions and is, among others, board member of a large downstream oil company. In addition, Cornelius is also Chairman of various trusts and foundations.
