Madrid, 16 July 2020

CMS Albiñana & Suárez de Lezo to appoint Alfonso Codes as partner of its Public Law and Regulated Sectors department.

Codes is set to throw more weight behind the department spearheaded by Ignacio Grangel and formed of seven lawyers including Ignacio Astarloa and members of the State Administration's most prestigious bodies.

His appointment, due for September, follows in the footsteps of recent capture Jaime Bofill together with three associates to create the firm's new Insurance, Reinsurance and Innovation practice.

Alfonso Codes is a State Attorney specialising in public affairs. His previous roles include working for the State Attorney Corps in La Coruña and Murcia, the Secretariat of State for Culture and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fishing, Food and the Environment, as well as the Ministry of Culture and Sport, joining the latter in 2018. On the academic front, he lectured on Civil Law at Universidad Pontificia Comillas ICADE.

He is a Graduate of Law with Business Studies (award for academic excellence) from Universidad Pontificia Comillas ICADE and also holds a Degree in Political Science and Government Studies from UNED (Spanish Open University).

Speaking about this pending appointment, CMS Managing Partner César Albiñana said: "the firm boasts a lengthy track record in advising on public and regulatory law, which represents one of our leading departments. The addition of someone with such an impressive profile and background like Alfonso enables us to continue fulfilling our aim of attracting the best talent to strengthen key practice areas."
