CMS appoints new Head of Corporate/M&A Group

1 December 2020

International law firm CMS is pleased to announce that partner Louise Wallace has been appointed as Head of the International Corporate/M&A Group. Louise’s appointment was confirmed in November 2020. She will be working alongside Co-Head of the group Stefan Brunnschweiler, who has run the group for seven years. Stefan will take up the role of Managing Partner of CMS Switzerland and will be joining the CMS Executive Committee from 1 January 2021.

Commenting on her appointment, Louise said: “I am delighted to take on this new role. I have been a member of the Corporate/M&A Group from its beginning and, under Stefan’s leadership, we are now increasingly acting on big-ticket, multi-jurisdictional transactions. CMS is consistently achieving top rankings in all major jurisdictions and the quality of our service is recognised by our clients. This is an exciting new chapter and I look forward to working with Stefan to continue championing excellence and putting our clients at the heart of everything we do.”

Louise has been a partner at CMS UK since 1997 and has previously served on the CMS Executive Committee and as Head of the International Consumer Products Group. She has earned an excellent reputation leading complex cross-border M&A transactions involving numerous CMS offices and has developed a strong network across the firm.

Louise covers all areas of M&A, private equity, joint ventures, hotel agreements, corporate governance and corporate restructurings. She is corporate lead for the Consumer Products sector, and she also has an active Hotels & Leisure practice.

In her new role, Louise will oversee CMS’s global team of over 1000 corporate lawyers who collaborate across more than 70 offices worldwide.

Stefan Brunnschweiler adds: “Louise is the perfect fit for this role. She knows CMS inside out thanks to her extensive work leading cross border transactions, as well as her active participation in the firm’s various groups and committees. She has proven herself as a talented leader many times over and I have no doubt that the group will flourish under her leadership. I very much look forward to us working together.”

CMS’s International Corporate/M&A Group is top ranked by Bloomberg, Mergermarket and Thomson Reuters. The firm offers a full range of corporate services in both the high-end and upper-mid markets, advising on all aspects of corporate law and transactions, and in 2019 CMS acted on more deals in Europe than any other firm. In 2020, demonstrating the firm’s ongoing commitment to expanding and strengthening the group, CMS appointed 9 new corporate partners in its global partner promotions.
