The Council of the EU and the European Parliament have adopted a directive on electronic payment services (PSD2) which incorporates and repeals directive 2007/64/EC (Payment Services Directive). The updated rules aim to broaden the scope to capture emerging and innovative payment services as well as ensuring a more secure environment for payments exists. Member States have two years in which to tranpose the directive.
