José Luís Arnaut is the Managing Partner at CMS Portugal and heads the TMC – Technology, Media and Communications, Intellectual Property as well as Life Sciences and Healthcare teams.
He has extensive experience providing strategic advice to public and private companies and is a highly regarded intellectual property lawyer, with a special focus on patents, trademarks, domain names, and new technologies.
He is a European Patent Attorney at the European Patent Office (EPO); a European Trademark Attorney at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), as well as an Industrial Property Official Agent at the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI).
José Luís is acknowledged as Eminent Practitioner for Intellectual Property, by Chambers Europe and has been ranked for the past 18 years. He is also acknowledged as a Leading Individual in the Hall of Fame for Intellectual Property and he is recommended for TMT, and for Data Privacy and Data Protection, by Legal 500, 2025. Moreover, he was awarded the Best Practice - Outstanding Achievement Award, by Iberian Lawyer, in 2021 and Trade Mark and Transactions Star in 2024, by IP Stars. He has also been awarded Gold Individual – WTR1000 for the past years. He is also ranked for IP - Trademarks, by WWL, and he has been recognised for Intellectual Property, by Best Lawyers since 2010. In addition, he is ranked Excellent for IP Litigation and Data Privacy & Data Protection & Data Privacy, as well as Highly Recommended for Technology and Trademark Prosecution by Leaders League, 2024.
