It is necessary for investors to understand the unique characteristics of each country, which go far beyond its legal framework.
Following CMS’s ambitious strategy for the African continent and given its legal and cultural proximity with Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe, CMS Portugal has created a team composed of lawyers from different Portuguese-speaking jurisdictions, with specialised local knowledge and deep understanding of the culture, customs and practices.

Who we are and how we do business
The Lusophone Africa team comprises lawyers based in Lisbon and local teams fully dedicated to Lusophone Africa matters. We have an in-depth knowledge of the legal systems of the various countries where we operate, benefiting from common legislative heritage and accumulated experience in the different jurisdictions.
The local teams are composed of lawyers who regularly advise on transactions in Lusophone African countries. When necessary, we are supported by experts from other CMS international offices. Our approach ensures that our clients benefit from the synergies between CMS and the local teams.
