What will be the most important market trend affecting your clients’ sectors over the next six months?
Volatility seems to be becoming a near constant. While clients are used to dealing with adapting to change, the scale and impacts of the volatility in the markets, in the sector and the world generally are requiring a degree of nimbleness not seen for some time. In the context of the so called energy trilemma, we have lately focused much of the attention on environmental attributes. However, the war in Ukraine has catalysed the shift in attention onto energy security as well as cost. How the industry and the politicians react to these changes will need to be watched carefully.
What is the best way to stay connected to the issues that affect your clients?
Communication – real, meaningful communication – is all the more important now in the world of increased remote or hybrid working. To stay connected to the issues that matter to clients, it is important to make time to listen to them and hear what is on their plates. Often, it’s the little things that are most pressing and most surprising.
How do you expect your work as a lawyer to change in the coming years?
Lawyers are privileged to be trusted by their clients and this is all the more important in times of stress and uncertainty. The lawyers that will be most valued to their clients are those that are masters of their subject, immersed in their sector and also technologically up to date to make sure the best tools are available and properly used to stay and keep their clients ahead of the game.
