Key employment issues across Europe and beyond

May 2019

We are happy to share the ninth edition of On your radar which brings you updates on key employment law developments across jurisdictions.

As we look ahead to our summer holidays, the Slovakian development certainly caught our attention: an annual recreation allowance for employees. Certain employees will be entitled to up EUR 275 per year to spend on accommodation and certain other activities in an attempt to stimulate the domestic tourist industry. Notable themes elsewhere this quarter were data protection and gender equality. Spain, Switzerland and China report on various measures designed to tackle gender inequality in the workplace, with new laws in Spain requiring all companies to have a ‘Salary Register’ including the average salaries broken down by gender to be made available to employee representatives, and action plans for companies with more than 50 employees. And finally returning to holidays, employers operating in Austria should be aware that a new right has been introduced allowing employees to decide to take one day of personal public holiday leave whenever they want to.

If you want to get in touch to find out more about a development in a particular country covered, or any other CMS jurisdiction, please speak to your usual CMS contact or e-mail employment@cmslegal.com.
