“Green source of inspiration” for Johannes Trenkwalder: Long-time partner and energy law expert joins GREEN SOURCE

25/01/2021

As a corporate/M&A lawyer, a member of the transaction team, and one of the most sought-after experts in energy law, Johannes Trenkwalder has achieved great success at and for CMS for more than 20 years. He has also played a key role in shaping the firm in numerous important ways. With the move to one of Europe’s leading photovoltaic project developers, Johannes Trenkwalder is beginning a new chapter of his career.

Johannes Trenkwalder will leave the CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz partnership at the end of the financial year on 31 January 2021. He has worked for the international business law firm since 2000, advising companies on their M&A activities in Austria and throughout the CEE region. His great commitment as head of the CMS office in Kyiv, as co-head of the CEE German Desk, and, last but not least, as head of the Energy Group, was also of enormous importance.

Johannes Trenkwalder will now be devoting himself entirely to this latter area – energy management and climate protection. He will join an interdisciplinary team of experts at GREEN SOURCE – a company founded in Vienna in 2006, which develops, implements, and operates ground-mounted photovoltaic plants in Central and Eastern Europe for private and institutional investors. Johannes Trenkwalder is thus moving to a company with which he is already very familiar. He and his CMS team have already been entrusted with providing legal advice on various GREEN SOURCE projects over the last ten years.

Cooperation on new paths

Of course, we are very sorry to see Johannes Trenkwalder leave,” said Managing Partner Johannes Juranek, “but the new appointment just demonstrates the excellent relationship our lead partners have with our clients. We are extremely thankful to Johannes Trenkwalder for the outstanding reputation and powerful team that the CMS Energy group has today."

The decision to no longer work as a lawyer for many different companies, but to focus on one client, was made for exclusively personal reasons,” explained Johannes Trenkwalder. “I have greatly appreciated the CMS environment over all these years and my enduring admiration can be seen from the fact that I am now looking forward to continuing to work with them as a client."
From 1 February 2021, he will bring his expertise in energy law and his extensive industry knowledge to GREEN SOURCE. For Johannes Trenkwalder, one of the main reasons for the move is that “the expansion of solar power is of major importance and many more large projects are needed in Central and Eastern Europe. As the European Environment Agency recently announced, the EU needs to shift the electricity sector away from oil, gas, and coal towards renewable energies even more quickly than originally thought in order to achieve its climate targets.”

About GREEN SOURCE
