Erik Steiner is a partner at CMS in Vienna and advises on all aspects of IT law, particularly cybersecurity, data protection, artificial intelligence, open-source software, and new and emerging technologies. A particular focus of his practice is video game law. He advises national and international companies in a practical and technically thorough manner—from contract drafting and licensing to regulatory issues and the management of complex technology projects.
Before pursuing a career in law, Erik Steiner worked for several years as a software developer; this technical expertise continues to shape his advisory work to this day and enables him to communicate on an equal footing with development teams and technical departments. He has several years of experience in IT and intellectual property law. He also teaches competition law and intellectual property law at the Vienna University of Applied Sciences (FH Wien der WKW).
