Valentina Eigner is an energy lawyer specialising in renewable energy and carbon markets. She advises national and international clients across the energy value chain on project and commodity trading agreements in Austria and across the EU, including renewable power, biogas, renewable hydrogen and related certificates.

Her practice combines transactional work with regulatory advice on EU energy and carbon markets, operating at the intersection of energy regulation, trading and project development. She regularly advises on complex cross-border structures and evolving regulatory frameworks within the EU energy transition. Valentina is a key contact for contract negotiation issues within the renewable energy sector. 

Relevant experience

Renewable power & power purchase agreements (PPAs)

  • Advising three German offshore wind park operators on their post-EEG long-term power purchase agreements, including physically and financially settled PPAs as well as electrolyser PPAs
  • Advising the German Energy Agency (dena) and Energy Traders Europe (former EFET) on physically settled and financially settled power purchase agreement templates for the German market geared towards SMEs         
  • Advising a US-based industrial company on their financially settled power purchase agreement with a Spanish solar facility to cover their GoO demand in Europe
  • Advising an Austrian wind park operator on its physically and financially settled PPAs
  • Advising an Austrian electricity producer on the Austrian support scheme for renewable energy

 

Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

  • Advising an Austria based international renewable energy company on their BESS trading portfolio
  • Advising an Austrian German international renewable energy company on its BESS tolling and optimisation agreements for a fleet of BESS projects in Germany

 

Renewable hydrogen & derivates 

  • Advising an Austrian energy company on the development of their upstream and downstream documentation for their newly established green hydrogen business in Austria, the EU, and third countries
  • Advising a German renewable hydrogen producer and EPC provider for electrolysers on their renewable hydrogen offtake agreements
  • Advising a German utility on their project participation and offtake agreement for delivery of renewable ammonia to Europe
  • Advising an international industry association on a hydrogen and hydrogen derivative trading agreement template

 

Green fuels

  • Advising an international asset manager on the development of their e-methanol project in the Nordics, including advice on the project agreements as well as renewable fuels regulation, CO2 pricing, and ETS matters
  • Advising a German project developer on their offtake agreements for their drop-in ready green fuels, including advice on renewable fuels regulation

 

Biogas

  • Advising Energy Traders Europe (former EFET) and the Central European Gas Hub (CEGH) on the EFET Biogas Certificates Single Trade Agreement 
  • Advising RECS Energy Certificate Association on the RECS Biogas Certificates Trade Agreement  
  • Advising several international traders on cross-border biomethane trading agreement structures and German quota agreements

 

Carbon Markets and Environmental Certificates

  • Advising several international traders on a multitude of trading agreements for renewable energy certificates and carbon credits
  • Advising a Dubai based trader on the international regulatory landscape for carbon credits and environmental attributes
