CMS advises Häfele on conversion to SE & Co KG

08/12/2020

Stuttgart – Häfele GmbH & Co KG, the parent company of the world-leading Häfele Group, a manufacturer and supplier of furniture fittings and architectural hardware, electronic locking systems and LED lighting, has adopted a new corporate form with effect from 1 December 2020. Häfele Germany will operate under the name Häfele SE & Co KG with immediate effect.

A team headed by lead partner Dr Thomas Meyding advised Häfele on all legal aspects of the conversion.

The Häfele Group can look back on an impressive track record since it was founded almost 100 years ago. The company has grown continuously, achieving an 80% export ratio in 2019 and generating sales of EUR 1.5 billion worldwide. There have been several changes in legal form over the years. Häfele was established as a sole proprietorship by Adolf Häfele on 1 December 1923. In 1949, it was taken over by the second generation as an OHG (offene Handelsgesellschaft, general partnership), with Walther Thierer at the helm. Strong growth led to the firm being converted into a KG (Kommanditgesellschaft, limited partnership) in 1972, and 20 years later, in 1992, into a GmbH & Co KG. Sibylle Thierer has led the company since 2004 as the third generation of the family.
