Frankfurt/Main – Willis Towers Watson has established a financial services provider in Germany with the aim of continuing to offer services in Germany and Europe that were previously provided through the German branch of London-based Towers Watson Limited.
Willis Towers Watson Investments GmbH became operational on 1 January 2021. The core offering is the development of strategic and tactical portfolio orientations in line with funding goals as well as the selection and onboarding of suitable asset managers. Other services include benchmark analysis and the selection of custodian banks and depositaries as well as investment management companies (KVG).
Willis Towers Watson also carries out realignment and restructuring of entire portfolios and their investment infrastructure, including transitioning to the new target structure. The firm also delivers a complete investment service through a fiduciary management solution that covers the entire spectrum of services, including risk controlling, reporting and manager monitoring, via an outsourcing mandate.
Willis Towers Watson’s Investment Consulting division currently employs more than 1,000 people worldwide, serving over 1,250 clients, with USD 2.6 trillion in assets under advisory and USD 148 billion in assets under management.
The firm’s clients in Germany are primarily pension funds, pension plans, CTAs, occupational pension funds and foundations.
A CMS team led by bank regulation lawyer Andrea München advised Willis Towers Watson Investment GmbH on all legal aspects of the new business. This included the authorisation procedure and setting up the business organisation required under regulatory law. CMS worked closely with the in-house team headed by Janno Krieger (Willis Towers Watson Investments GmbH, Legal/Compliance).
