CMS Hasche Sigle mourns the loss of long-serving partner Dr Rolf-Peter Geidel

30/01/2013

Leipzig – At the age of just 62, long-serving CMS Hasche Sigle partner Dr Rolf-Peter Geidel passed away on 24 January 2013 after being seriously ill for some time. This is a painful loss for the firm from both a human and a professional viewpoint. We were deeply shocked to learn of his death.

Rolf-Peter Geidel was part of our firm for 30 years. Following a brief period as a public prosecutor he focused on commercial criminal law, initially at our Stuttgart office. His roots, however, were in Leipzig, where he was born. Accordingly, he was eager to return to his native city after German reunification. From 1990 onwards, he successfully built up the Leipzig office of Sigle Loose Schmidt-Diemitz and merged it in 1999 with the firm of Hasche pp. In addition to commercial criminal law, he devoted himself to real estate law and the liability of qualified professionals.

Rolf-Peter Geidel was not only an exceptionally sharp-witted and outstanding lawyer and mentor. He was also invariably friendly, approachable and helpful, with a good sense of humour and a positive attitude to life. A solution-oriented approach combined with a desire to provide clients with maximum support, plus a strong commitment to justice, were central to Rolf-Peter Geidel's work as a lawyer. He invariably enjoyed the trust of his clients, many of whom he advised over several decades. Rolf-Peter Geidel never felt compelled to take centre stage, often preferring to work behind the scenes. As Senior Partner in our Leipzig office, he made a major contribution to its excellent market position.

We will miss him greatly and will cherish his memory. Our sincere sympathy goes out to his bereaved family, in particular his wife and two children.
