For the second time commercial law firm CMS Hasche Sigle has awarded a young academic with the CMS
Hasche Sigle Prize for excellence in academic research in the field of commercial law. The prize of
EUR 5,000 was awarded to Dr Wolfgang Servatius, research assistant at the Institute for Private Law
and the Law of Civil Procedure at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich, for his
dissertation on the subject of "structural measures and governance – the director's duties
regarding business decisions of the shareholders' meeting".
The presentation took place in Frankfurt at the official opening of the firm's new Frankfurt
premises. In his presentation address Joachim Gres, senior partner of CMS Hasche Sigle said that Dr
Servatius' "work represented an innovative and interesting – even ground-breaking – contribution to
the debate on "correct" governance in joint stock companies". The dissertation, which deals
with the topical issue of corporate governance, sets out a list of duties for the management bodies
of joint stock companies in preparing and implementing structural decisions. In so doing, Dr
Servatius has filled in a blank on the map of joint stock company law.
