CMS Hasche Sigle sponsors paid internships for law students

Support for The European Law Students' Association and the advancement of younglawyers

CMS Hasche Sigle supports the advancement of young lawyers and offers three exceptionalstudents paid internships in one of the largest corporate law firms in Germany. The winners of the „ European Law Essay Competition 2008“ have been announced: Dinh Viet Tuyen Phan, University Berlin, Julian Kammin, University of Kiel, and Simone Harsch, University of Passau.

In the winter semester 2007/08 The European Law Students' Association (ELSA) - Leipzig conductedits first „European Law Essay Competition 2008“ together with its partners in academia andpractice. The ELEC 2008 is an essay competition on the subject of European law open to law students throughout Germany.

The competition began when the topics were announced in January this year at more than 40 universities and on the internet, and commenced with announcement of the winners and the awardsceremony. The authors of the six best essays each won a paid internship at CMS Hasche Sigle or Morgan Lewis at the location of their choice in Germany.

„We are pleased to support the academic talent participating in such a broadly based competition. The topics were challenging and we are impressed with the intensity and professionalism of the students involved. The participants had to write an essay on one of the following topics:

1.) "Where is Europe heading? Challenges, chances and perspectives after the Lisbon summit"

2.) "Paulskirchen Constitution and contract for a new constitution for Europe – Works with no effect?"

3.) "USA, Russia, China, India... and EU? What legal frame conditions are necessary for the EU to survive the challenges of the 21st century?"

4.) A comparable topic of one's own choice

A jury chosed the best essays from all of the ones that were received. The jury consisted of the editorial staffs of Der kleine Advokat and Bucerius Law School Journals, lawyers from CMS Hasche Sigle and Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, Professor Dr Jörn Axel Kämmerer (Bucerius Law School) and Professor Dr Markus Kotzur, LLP (Duke University, University of Leipzig).
