CMS strengthens its Energy and Climate Change practice with the appointment of Dr Hendrik Wessling

Düsseldorf – Dr Hendrik Wessling joined the international commercial law firm CMS on 1 May 2026 and is now working as Counsel in the Energy and Climate Change practice group at the firm's Düsseldorf office. He advises clients across the full spectrum of energy regulation, energy contracts and energy trading law. Prior to this, he spent six years working in the energy and competition law practice of a major international commercial law firm.

His outstanding expertise complements our high-calibre energy law practice and strengthens our existing practice in one of our core sectors", explains Dr Ursula Steinkemper, Partner and Head of Energy & Climate Change at CMS in Germany.

Dr Wessling's work involves advising on transactions, arbitration proceedings and proceedings before the courts, as well as drafting commercial contracts and preparing legal opinions. He has extensive experience with all types of energy infrastructure, including electricity, natural gas and hydrogen networks, gas storage facilities, LNG terminals, offshore and onshore wind farms, solar parks, battery storage systems, electrolysers, gas-fired power plants, refineries, district heating networks and supply infrastructure in industrial estates. Dr Wessling also advises on all aspects of German and European energy competition law.
