Frankfurt/Main – Among the steps taken by Mercedes-Benz following the split-up of the group was to strategically re-position its leasing products as modern mobility solutions. Accordingly, Mercedes-Benz established Mercedes-Benz Leasing Deutschland GmbH initially as a leasing firm, with business operations commencing in the second quarter of 2022. To meet rising demand for mobility solutions both with and without leasing, Mercedes-Benz Leasing Deutschland GmbH has now acquired a licence to provide payment services under the Payment Services Supervision Act (ZAG).

A team headed by CMS partner Joachim Kaetzler advised Mercedes-Benz Leasing Deutschland GmbH on all legal aspects of setting up the institution and obtaining the necessary authorisations. This licence to operate payment services alongside the leasing business has created the first hybrid sales financing institution for the German car industry in Germany.
