Successful pre-seed financing round: CMS advises femtech start-up theblood

Frankfurt/Main – Berlin-based start-up theblood has raised around EUR 1 million from a combination of VC investors in the healthtech sector and business angels. Lead investor in the pre-seed round of financing was Rox Health, the VC arm of pharmaceutical group Roche. Another shareholder is German impact investor Leanox. The start-up intends to use the capital for further research and to finance its market entry.

A CMS team headed by lead partner Dr Florian Plagemann advised theblood on all legal aspects of the financing round. The start-up is a member of equIP, CMS’s own start-up support programme. The aim of the programme is to support start-ups and young innovative companies. To achieve this, CMS offers these companies comprehensive legal advice while also promoting their business goals.

theblood tests period blood for various parameters, such as vitamin deficiency and hormone levels. According to the company, this is more effective than a normal blood sample. theblood’s work on period blood is pioneering, as research in this area is relatively new. Following an initial test run, the next step is a clinical study aimed at validating the procedure. The test kit is expected to go on the market in the autumn and will include a subscription service.
