Hendrik Wessling is a member of the Energy and Climate Change sector group and advises clients across the full spectrum of energy regulation, energy contracts and energy trading law. His work involves advising on transactions, arbitration proceedings and proceedings before the courts, as well as drafting commercial contracts and preparing legal opinions.

He has extensive experience with all types of energy infrastructure, including electricity, natural gas and hydrogen networks, gas storage facilities, LNG terminals, offshore and onshore wind farms, solar parks, battery storage systems, electrolysers, gas-fired power plants, refineries, district heating networks and supply infrastructure in industrial estates.

He also advises on all aspects of German and European competition law.

Hendrik Wessling joined CMS in 2026. Prior to this, he spent six years working in the energy and competition law practice of a major international commercial law firm.

  • Advice to Hintco (H2Global) on the drafting and negotiation of supply contracts for hydrogen and hydrogen derivatives*
  • Advice to and representation of ExxonMobil in several legal proceedings before the European General Court (EGC) concerning the obligation on oil and gas producers to contribute, proportionately to their historical production volumes, towards achieving the EU's target of 50 million tonnes of annual operational CO2 injection capacity by 2030*
  • Advice to several transmission system operators on legal issues relating to the hydrogen core network*
  • Advice to KKR on the acquisition of shares in EGC*
  • Advice to RWE on the agreement with Norges Bank Investment Management regarding the sale of shares in the Nordseecluster and Thor projects*
  • Advice to steel and chemical companies on the EU Emissions Trading System and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)*
